lucky1What a Lucky Guy

It’s not a surprise that I have a lot of friends. Hey, I walk dogs for a living and so, dog friends are my perk for walking miles upon miles every week. But I also have human friends. Among them a bunch of students from Gretchen’s class. They love me, but they also love Ollie (who lives next door to the school) and Woobie who today got to spend the whole day with us!

That was like the best surprise ever! When someone rang our doorbell early in the morning, I was shocked and I let loose a few ferocious barks to let the “intruder” know the family was protected. But when the door open and Woobie ran in, well I was one happy boy. And when we got to take her to school with us this morning, everyone was thrilled, me most of all!

Woobie and I got lots of love in the classroom and when it was time to go, to venture off to our other work and pick up Ollie for his walk, well the girls insisted on seeing all of us. That sounds like a photo op to me!

lucky2

Ollie, Woobie, and I hiked along the ridge and then ended up back at the house because I had yet to eat breakfast. I tried to eat it earlier, but I was so excited about Woobie’s arrival and showing her off at school, well, I couldn’t find a moment to really focus on my food. So Gretchen dropped me off at the house while she took Woobie and Ollie over to Gemma’s house.

Ollie feels about Gemma the way I feel about Woobie. He knows when he’s on his way to her house and he gets really excited, pulling slightly on his harness to race up the long steps to Gemma’s house. The three of them headed over to the tennis courts for a bit of a romp and that’s when Woobie let loose, racing around the courts like a wild stallion. A hairy wild stallion, that is!

Ollie and Gemma thought that was great fun, but once Woobie tired out, they focused on playing fetch while Woobie posed her icy beard for Gretchen’s camera.

They all came back to our house for a short visit and we played in the backyard. Well, Ollie, Gemma, and I played. Woobie sat on the porch looking angelic in the morning light.

Woobie and I stayed back home while Gemma walked Ollie back to his house. Woobie and I needed the rest after our very full morning. Once Ollie was dropped off, Gretchen walked Gemma home along the ridge and then headed up to Rosie’s house where once again, Rosie was full of vim and vigor!

phobic

Of course, you can never really tell how lively she is in the photos because she’s kind of photo-phobic. Gretchen thought that posing her by the purple scarecrow would be a nice distraction only it kind of looks like the structure that holds up the purple scarecrow is coming out of Rosie’s head. Oops!

purplegirlrosiepurple

oops

Rosie and Gretchen also walked along the ridge because it gives the best views of the mountains to the west and east. Gretchen didn’t take any photos of the views, but she breathed them in nonetheless.

Once Rosie went home, Gretchen came back to get Woobie and me and all three of us headed up to Alice’s house. Alice is always a little cautious when she comes out the door, but once she saw it was Woobie and me, she wagged her tail and got all excited. And yes, we headed up the hill back to the ridge because the days are growing shorter and one must take in as much beauty as one can on these winter days. This time, Gretchen tried to get all three of us in front of Mount Rainier. Didn’t work in the first photo, but that mountain is there in the second…of course, so is the telephone pole blocking the view. Oh well. We live in a city, what can we expect!

nomountainmountain

We head along the ridge and then back up through the neighborhoods where we dropped Alice off at her house once again. After Woobie and I said goodbye, we walked down through the neighborhood and over to Saber’s house.

Gretchen thought twice about walking three dogs since she knew Saber would be really excited that Woobie was with us, but she decided to give it a try! The plan was to head to the tennis courts, but those pesky park rangers were hanging around so we went for a walk through the park and then landed back at our house for a romp in the backyard.

Yep, Saber and I played keep away with my favorite blue soccer ball that he kept trying to shake and kill while Woobie watched from the porch in the afternoon angelic light.

Then, when Saber was panting hard and I was feeling a bit tuckered myself, we leashed up again and walked Saber back home. He flew into his kennel and flopped down ready for an afternoon nap and frankly, if the kennel had been big enough, I’d have joined him. But I still had to play host to Woobie so we walked back home and laid around in the kitchen while Gretchen made enough chili to feed the 30 or so people who will be showing up tomorrow evening for a staff party. Yikes! I’ve heard rumors that I’ll be spending time with Jessica and Quillette and frankly, that sound perfect to me! I’ll need a little peace and quiet after all this time with my many, many friends.

What a lucky guy I am!

Until tomorrow,

Rubin

seriousBrrrrrrrrrr!

I have a problem. It may not seem like a big problem, but for me, it’s kind of crucial that things warm up around here or I may die of dehydration. Let me explain. I love to lap up a cool drink of fresh water just like any dog, but I have a peculiarity. I like to drink from the water dish on the back porch. That water just tastes better. I’m not sure why since often it’s filled up at the same time the inside water is, but still, it just tastes better and somehow I feel it is better for me.

Well, for the past few days, our temperatures have dropped well below freezing. This morning, in fact, it was 17 degrees. At the warmest part of the day, the thermometer squeaked its way up to 30 degrees. Still below freezing. Therefore, my water bowl is frozen solid most of the time except when someone takes the time to thaw it out in the sink and fill it with fresh, liquid water.

frozen

That doesn’t happen as often as I like and them I’m forced to sip from the inside water to stave off dehydration. I am not a happy dog.

No one else appears to be bothered by the cold. Take for instance Monty, our first walk of the day. He was raring to go this morning when we picked him up and couldn’t care less that we walked up every hill and every set of steps so Gretchen could warm up. She was so cold she was hesitant to take our her camera and snap of few photos because it meant taking off her gloves.

But when she saw the opportunity, she nabbed it and took a few photos of the two of us perched on the rock at the top of the stairs.

goodsports

We were good sports until we heard something rustle in the bushes. SQUIRREL?

squirrel?

Who knows what it turned out to be though Gretchen let us smell in the bushes since we’d been so patient with all the photography!

We continued up and up and then back down the hills (once Gretchen was warm) toward home where we received our lunch and I made an attempt to drink from the outside water. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my almost 3 years of life is never NEVER put your warm tongue on a block of ice.

So while Monty practiced begging for more lunch or at least a snack…

begging

…I begged for fresh outside water.

freshwater?

We both got what we wanted!

Next up for Gretchen were Gemma and Saber. I think Gretchen should have walked them first because talk about a way to warm up! Those two LOVE each other and once they see the other one, they are a handful to walk. Gemma butts into Saber and Saber burrows his head into Gemma…all the while, Gretchen does her best to keep the leashes untangled until they get to the tennis courts where she lets them run and play and wrestle to their heart’s content.

stalkingwrestling

And while they were playing, Hattie showed up, but decided not to come in the arena to play with them. Smart dog that Hattie!

Soon they got back to playing and Saber practiced shoveling  Gemma across the court!

resting

Once they are sufficiently worn out, they all go for a walk and this time Gretchen doesn’t have to work as hard to keep them apart, but still, it’s a work out!

After Saber and Gemma went home, Gretchen picked up the boys next door. Oshi wasn’t so sure because, as I’ve said, it’s mighty cold out there. Oshi did his business quickly and then turned to go back home, but Gretchen made him go for the entire walk before she let him have his way. Lucky for Oshi, they found a warm spot in the sun for a rest!

restarea

It’s really pretty funny how Oshi walks way behind Gretchen as the go out on the walk and then, when he knows they’ve made the turn toward home, he is all business about getting back. Very different personalities on the leash, those two!

Oshi was thrilled to go home, though Perrito would have enjoyed another hour or two!

For our final walk of the day, we got to play some fetch with Saber. He was very excited when Monty and I showed up and Monty and I were equally excited to know that we got to play fetch at the little field.

Yes, my tender feet are feeling better today, but the ground is still frozen…still as frozen, in fact, as my water dish!

Tenderfoot

I feel bad for the quick blog of yesterday, so I’ve decided to post a few of my favorite photos from yesterday and then I’ll post a new blog for today.

So here’s yesterday first…

"It's cold out here, isn't it?"

"It's cold out here, isn't it?"

"Hey, I'm on the bench like Monty!"

"Hey, I'm on the bench like Monty!"

"Uh oh! I have a feeling this is going to be a new favorite spot for photos!"

"Uh oh! I have a feeling this is going to be a new favorite spot for photos!"

You gotta love a crisp clear day when the Mountain is out!

You gotta love a crisp clear day when the Mountain is out!

"Rubin, do you get to come to this park all the time?"

"Rubin, do you get to come to this park all the time?"

The Great Gatsby...trust me, he's like really, really big!

The Great Gatsby...trust me, he's like really, really big!

Okay, I feel a bit better. Now onto today.

tenderfootTenderfoot, you ask? Well, it’s been very cold as of late. Cold means the ground is hard and kind of rough. Since I walk and play a lot on any given day, sometimes my feet get kind of roughed up. That’s what happened yesterday. So when I got up this morning and hobbled down the stairs and outside to do my business, Gretchen realized I was going to have to take it easy today. Plus, it’s still really cold, the ground is still really hard, and it’s all just a recipe for really tender feet!

So while I really wanted to play and walk more today, Gretchen went out on her own with many of ourouch clients while I rested my sore feet. I even have to miss agility class tonight because she’s worried that the bark all over the arena would irritate my roughed up pads. While I appreciate her care and concern, it’s kind of a bummer NOT to go to class though with the weather predicted to be down in the teens tonight, maybe it’s a good thing we’re staying home in a warm house!

I did get to go to school today, but that’s when Gretchen really realized how sore my feet were. I kind of tip-toed around the classroom all morning and while the students tried to nurse me back to health, I still struggled with the walking. So we picked up Ollie and then they walked me home so I could rest while Ollie went on a nice walk with Saber. Aren’t they cute together?

cutefriendscutefriends2

Saber walked Ollie backed to his house and then Gretchen walked Saber home. Afterwords, she picked up Rosie who she hasn’t seen for a week since Rosie’s family went to Hawaii! Hope they brought back some warm weather though I don’t think it’s made it here yet!

energetic

Rosie was a fireball of energy today so they went for a nice long walk through the park, around the school, and then up to the tractor at Bradner Gardens. Rosie patiently posed, but she was raring to go so they headed back down through the park and eventually back home. The way Rosie was feeling though, Gretchen says she could have walked for hour more! Unfortunately for Rosie, Gemma was waiting for her walk!

tractortractor2

Gemma wasn’t as raring to go as Rosie, but she was still excited to head over to our house where she got to play with me for a bit. She was very gentle…well, as gentle as Gemma can be…once she realized I was a bit gimpy.

gentlegentle2

boxingboxing2

my turnneckwrestling

Still, we played in the winter sun in the backyard before we headed out for a walk through Judkins Park. Gretchen tried to pose  us in the sun, but it got kind of complicated because Gemma was warmed up and wanted to sniff around, not pose for pictures. Still, she was patient for a bit and then we headed off (at a bit slower pace than usual) back to her house where we dropped her off.

whichway?that way!

patientnomoresniffing

Since I was feeling a bit better (not as sore anyway) Gretchen let me go on a walk with Saber. Oh, he was thrilled to see me when he came out his front door and I have to admit, I was happy to see him. We headed through the tunnel and then to the Mt. Baker secret trail (well, it’s not that secret since we saw a bicyclist…that made Saber a little scared…and a runner on the trail).

new trailcomeon!

And yes, Gretchen posed us at that crook of a tree just like she did yesterday on our walk with Gemma. Oh boy! This really is going to be the new photo spot. I suppose it’s important to know that to get to that crook of the tree requires a bit of maneuvered climbing on our part. Gretchen tries to lead us up, but we are kind of high off the ground and as you can see, a bit precarious. Still, we wait patiently (albeit uncomfortably) while she snaps the picture…

precariousprecarious2

…then we get to run around a bit and smell all the woodsy smells. I didn’t run too much — see my tenderfooted trot? But Saber ran a bit and enjoyed his time on a leash drag. His recall command is really going well!

secretsgoodrecall

It’s still mighty cold out there and tomorrow doesn’t promise to be much warmer. Hopefully my feet will feel better tomorrow and I can get out in the cold sun a bit more. I’m not complaining, but I do miss hanging with my friends.

Until tomorrow,

Rubin

Six Degrees

There were only six degrees of separation today between the temperature low and the temperature high. Normally, this wouldn’t disturb me, but when the separation was between 25 and 31, well, I paid a lot more attention to the thermostat! Brrrrrr it was cold out there today, but we still had fun.

Unfortunately, though, I got home late tonight so I’m going to give a quick run down and then gallery the photos at the end of the blog. Sorry, it’s not up to my usual snuff, but I promise to be better tomorrow. This holiday season is starting fast and furious and the clock is spinning at lightning speed these days.

Okay, on with the day…it started with Oshi and Perrito who were, despite the cold, happy to see us. We went for a walk, played at the tennis courts and then went for an even longer walk. They liked that. I liked it too, though I wasn’t too pleased when Perrito stole my ball. He’s getting kind of …shall I say it? …ballsy lately!

Next up was Gemma who was also thrilled to see me. We went for a walk that took us to the trail above the beach where Gretchen posed us high up on the curve of a tree and then let us run around. Well, I ran around and Gemma tried to stop me, but you get the point.

The day ended with Saber who also got a nice long walk to another wooded trail where he, too, watched me run around. He also chewed on sticks and was most impressed with a friend on the trail, Gatsby. Yep, an adult Gatsby is probably the size Saber will be when he’s fully grown. Big boys, I tell, ya, big boys.

And that was it. Seems short, I know, and it’s amazing that I’m this tired, but holiday shopping can take it right out of you after a long day of work!

Put on your sweaters, kids! 18 degrees tonight and the highs in the 20s tomorrow. Woo wee!

Oh, here are the photos from the day complete with pictures of the mountains!

Waiting for BlueDSC06531

The past few days we’ve had beautiful sun. Even though it’s been cold, the blue sky and winter sun have warmed my spirits so today when I got up, I was really looking forward to more of the same.

One should never hope for a specific kind of weather around here. It’s so unpredictable. About halfway through the day, I turned to Gretchen and said, “I’m still waiting for blue! Where is it?” She just shrugged her shoulders and said, “Some days the blue just hides away.”

tree blueHide it did. Or is that Hid it Did? I kind of like the rhyme, but regardless, the blue on showed itself briefly, VERY briefly when Gretchen was out with dogs other than me so she took photos of it as proof that there was some blue out there today.

Blue may have been there, but mostly it was cold, foggy, and then wet — something no one expected, least of all Gretchen who didn’t pack a towel or enough rain gear. Good thing the rain happened on the last part of day!

The day went like this – blue or no blue — First Monty and I fetch Saber for a romp in the fog at the bench guytennis courts followed by a walk through the park. Then Gretchen fed Monty and me lunch while she walked Gemma with Oshi and Perrito. They, too ended up playing at the tennis courts, but Gretchen said it was pretty funny. She’d throw the ball and both dogs we race after it, but then be distracted by chasing the dog running at their side. Neither of them ended up with the ball so Gretchen was the one playing fetch while Perrito and Gemma tried to herd each other.

Oshi got some running in, too, but mostly he just looked at Gretchen and said, “It looks like rain!”

chasing what? The last walk of the day was just like the first — Monty, Saber, and me — but in the middle of it all, not only did Saber and I play “I can steal your ball” and Monty practiced his bench moves — it started to rain and rain really hard. Oops. So much for being prepared!

After we played at the tennis courts, we walked through the park over to the school to say goodbye to our student friend who is moving to a new school. I was glad we got to see him, but all of us are going to really miss him. Gretchen promises we’ll go visit some time, but we’ll no longer see him on a daily basis. Good luck little guy!

Gretchen was going to take pictures, but the blue disappeared and rain came down like crazy water. It was way too wet to pull out the camera so we said our goodbyes and then walked Saber home.

Monty and I ventured back to our house, got a full rub down (so did Gretchen), and then snuggled in separate dog beds content with the day.

“I missed the blue. Did you, Monty?”

Zzzzzzzzzzz…

Oops…he’s sleeping. More pictures of our day below!

Have a great weekend!

Red Dogs in the Morning…

red ears

…Rubin take warning! Gray dogs in the afternoon, they day will end soon!

Okay, so I’m not a poet, but today we saw a clear division between the morning dogs and the afternoon dogs. Red dogs in one clump, gray dogs in another. And let me tell you, there is a distinct difference between the personalities of red dogs and gray dogs…very distinct.

Red dogs are frisky. They have great spurts of energy and a slightly stubborn streak. Take Ollie, for instance. Sweet, sweet fellow but he has his moments. Today it was the need to bark at squirrels (which I completely understand) and to get all excited when he saw another dog. He walked me home, but then got to play with Gemma — another red head — at the tennis courts where they raced around like only red heads can do!

spritelyracing

racing2comeback!

Then there’s Gemma. Stubborn as a fence post. Unmovable if she’s fixated on something like a redballsquirrel, a dog behind a fence, a dog she’s playing with, or avoiding the command “come.” Gemma and Ollie are perfect examples of red dogs being a lot of fun, but they each have their quirks. Ollie’s a little nervous; Gemma’s bold beyond belief. Ollie likes to reassured; Gemma is extremely independent. Ollie waits to be invited; Gemma barges right in. While these may seem like opposing qualities, they are often the behaviors we find in red-haired dogs and they demonstrated these behaviors today while playing.

fixatedredface

hereshecomes

Gemma walked Ollie back home after their romp and then Gretchen and Gemma stopped by to pick up Alice…another red head.

Alice contains a little of both of the opposite sides of red dogs — stubborn on a leash, yet a need to reassured especially if she gets spooked. Gemma and Alice had met before, but they’ve never had a chance to play together. When they swung by our house to pick me up, I was a little worried that perhaps it wasn’t the best idea to have tenacious (Gemma) play with nervous (Alice), but Gretchen assured me it would all be okay.

It was for awhile…

friendlyhackles

bossy

…but the Gemma got bossy and Alice wasn’t very pleased.  After some pushiness, Alice decided the best place to hang out was between Gretchen’s legs, which to Gemma, was an invitation to push Alice around even more. Gretchen put a stop to that right away and since it was time for Gemma to go home, that’s exactly what we did. While I was sad to see her go, Alice was relieved so we headed back over to the courts to play — just the two of us. Alice thought that was just fine!

sheepishplayful

Yes, that’s a sheepish Alice to the left and then a frisky red-headed Alice above.

I guess I know how to handle my red heads!

airbornetogetherplay

handlingredmoreplay

Alice does have some herding instincts. While she played fetch with her own ball, she often spent a lot of time telling me which way to go.

What a red head!

gothiswaygothatway

We took Alice home after that and then walked up the street to the gray side. Woobie was first and she exemplifies gray-haired dogs — playful, goofy, and friendly. I’m always happy to see Ms. Woobie and she’s thrilled to see me, too. We walked down through the park where Gretchen posed us in front of Mt. Rainier for off in the distance. You kind of have to squint to see it, but it’s there! (More in the second photo than the first…right above my head. Hey, my head is the same shape as the mountain!)

posedseeit?

Then we got to play some fetch at the little field before we picked up Saber. Well, let me rephrase — I played fetch and Woobie chose not to. Some days she likes to play fetch and some days she doesn’t. Today she didn’t instead she just walked around the field sniffing everything and then waiting patiently by the backpack while I chased after the ball.

sniffingwaiting

Little did she know we’d be heading over to get Saber and come back to the field (tennis players were occupying the tennis courts) where Saber and I played more fetch, chase, and battle for control of THE STICK! Saber exemplifies the sometimes rowdy nature of gray dogs, but for every ounce of rowdiness there’s a double dose of sweetness. While Woobie has learned to choose when she’ll be rowdy, Saber has little control over it at this point in his puppyhood, but he’s still as sweet and lovable as Woobie!

goofytag

stickbattlesticktaunt

What did Woobie do while we played? She waited patiently by the backpack…showing restraint! And sometimes we joined her for a little break from all the frolicking!

patientresting

morereststillresting

…until Desi showed up! Woobie wanted to play with Desi, but he just wasn’t into it today. Yep, another gray dog. Still, he’s as sweet and adorable as Woobie and Saber!

desisweet

And me? Well, I’m officially considered apricot, which I suppose is partially red, but Gretchen tells me I’m a unique boy with my own unique qualities of both temperament and personality. Ahhhh…isn’t she sweet…and yes, she’s gray-haired, too!

Until tomorrow (I hear hints of the possibility of snow!!!!!!!)

gingershadowShadow Casters

The beauty of the Pacific Northwest is often lost on visitors. Shrouded in gray and skirted by clouds, it’s often hard to see why one would choose to live here, but days like today (and yesterday and apparently tomorrow and the next day) make all that rain and wetness worth it. Today was a day when we couldn’t help but cast shadows. Blue skies, a winter sun, and play time = a recipe for Shadow Casters.

That’s what we were today starting with a short walk with Monty. When Gretchen took us out, we were both kind of tired, but the short walk was just a warm up.

sleepy

Well, a warm up for Gretchen. After our walk, she left us at home to eat our meals while she grabbed Gemma and Saber for a romp at the tennis courts. And weren’t they surprised when they ran into Ginger! While I was digesting my food (and Monty was digesting as well) Gemma and Saber were playing shadow puppets with Ginger.

Each dog has their own distinct style of play. For Gemma it’s backing her butt into whichever dog she’s trying to play with and for Saber it’s using his large head as a shovel, lifting dogs off the ground as he moves them around the court.

buttingshovel

fleetfeethappiness

Ginger, it appears, is about being fleet of foot and while she let Gemma butt her and Saber lift her, she would rather play fetch and maybe a little chase. Wish we’d been there. She looks like lots of fun!

Saber went home first and then Gretchen took Gemma out for a little longer. She went home tired, though, her tongue hanging and her ears loose!

Next up were Oshi and Perrito who practiced posing and looking at the camera, casting a few shadows of their own.

The hard part is that they never look at the camera at the same time. Gretchen took about 30 photos and only got ONE like this. Whew!

I guess the boys were watching the shadows =-) off in the distance!

After the boys went home, Jessica called and asked if wanted to go on a walk. Of course we did, so we leashed up, walked over to Jessica and Quillette’s house and then back to get Saber. Quillette was feeling really frisky so we headed over to the tennis courts one more time.

We walked over to the school to check in on our student buddy, but he went home early. Boo hoo. I bet he would have loved to have made shadow puppets with us.

Afterward, Monty, Quillette and I hung out at the house — well, we tried to, but Gretchen got a bee in her bonnet and decided to clean up a bit. It’s hard to dodge the broom when she feels like cleaning! But we did the best we could making sure to stay outside of her cleaning shadow.

Until tomorrow!

The In-Between Moments

togetherFor a dog, the in-between moments are the time when we are our most philosophical. Unfortunately, some dogs never get in-between moments. They never get time between doing/not doing, the time between food, naps, and rubs on the belly. Instead they either get all doing or all nothing and for them, there is a sadness about their lives that worries me.

Take for instance a dog who must spend his life in a backyard, never allowed to explore the world with his nose. Or a dog who must be quiet all the time or kept from family and friends because she doesn’t know how to behave. The dogs I pity the most are those dogs who must wait in kennels far away from their homes because they have been abandoned or lost or taken away because their “families” did not love them.

Recently, I met a dog who was seeking a new home. Her name was Doris and while we were hoping to get her photograph today on our walk, we were unable to, but all for good reasons. Doris was a lost dog. She lived in California, but the fires they experienced pushed her from her family and home and she wound up in a crowdedOlliedog shelter. Luckily, a kind woman named Ginger took Doris (and many, many others) in. Doris was then passed on as a foster dog to Ollie’s mom who was to love Doris and care for her until she found a home.

Well, this past weekend, before we had a chance to really get to know Doris (or take her picture), Doris was adopted by a nice woman from Portland. That’s so wonderful for Doris though I know Ollie was a bit sad today. That’s why we made sure to spend time with Ollie playing.

sunnysideStill, all this Doris stuff got me to thinking about how many dogs don’t get those in between moments. They don’t get to go out, explore, play, romp, and run and then sleep on their beds and dream about squirrels. They don’t get to lick up a scrumptious meal and then play tug-o-war with anyone. They don’t get to hide under blankets at the end of the day or wait with anticipation for the completion of breakfast so they can go on their morning walk.

There are a lot of dogs out there who don’t have in-between moments — spaces between the love where they can sigh deeply and take in the warmth of their families and the meaning of their lives.

That’s why we’re telling you about Ginger’s Pet Rescue because she understands the importance of those in-between moments. She gets how every dog must be given the opportunity to wag his tail, cock her head, or sleep curled up like a deer in between the games of fetch, the extra-special supper, and the nightly massage. Ginger has rescued a whole bunch of dogs from California and these dogs need foster homes and forever family homes, too. You can find more about Ginger and all her rescues on her website, but we wanted to spread the news through our site as well.

Every dog deserves some in between moments. Here are some of ours from today.

I’m always fascinated by flying things. Today it was an orange kite, but I’m also drawn to airplanes and birds.

You’d think that Gemma, being focused on little things like squirrels, would find flying things interesting, but trust me, it took a lot of effort on my part to get her to look up! Eventually she did!
