Signs of Spring

tulip poseGretchen promised that the rain would stop and she was right. No rain today!  Instead, we had lots and lots of sun with a slight breeze from the South. Nice, very nice.

Our day wasn’t super busy, either. We got a message from Chloe’s mom, so we added Chloe to our short list of walks.  She was very happy to see us even though the picture to the left doesn’t suggest that she likes me very much…but trust me, we have a close friendship based on silent and subtle communications.

This is something that humans often don’t understand about dogs. We know what’s going on. Even when it may not look like we know what’s going on, we know. Take this picture, for instance. Gretchen put me in a STAY, which means I can’t go anywhere until she taps me on my head and says, “release.” (Yeah, I’m a pretty well-trained, aren’t I?) Even though I’m in a stay it doesn’t mean that I can’t look with interest at something down the road and in this photo that “something” was another dog about 2 blocks away.

Notice Chloe, though. She looks slightly annoyed that we’ve stopped or perhaps bored that Gretchen is posing us one more time.

you smell goodIs she aware of me?

You bet she is, in fact she leaned over and took a big whiff, curious about why I was curious.  I tried to tell her — dog, another dog — but Chloe was busy smelling me.  “You smell good,” she said.

“I know,” I told her. “I went to the spa last week and I still smell like shampoo!”

“Spa? You mean that place where they put you in a big tub and wash you?”

“That’s the place,” I said.

“You’re braver than I thought,” she replied, “Is that why Gretchen wants to take our picture because you look good?”

oh, you're here!“Yep, probably, so if we want to get this over with and start walking some more, we better look at her because she thinks eye contact is important.”

“Humans,” Chloe huffed, “They are so into eye contact!”

Yes, all of that happened between us while Gretchen worked on getting just the right photo. When we were done (or should I say when she was done!) we continued on with our walk and saw lots and lots more signs of Spring.

Chloe and I headed to the new trail where we walked together…

Smelled spring together…

Looked for squirrels!

did you see that?

And walked together some more…

Next up? Ollie!!!! Only Ollie wasn’t feeling his full and spunky self today. His left front leg was a tad bit sore so we just walked — down to the lake, up the big hill, through the park and back home…

Ollie

Me and Ollie Just Ollie

And yes, we posed in one of my least favorite spots, but Gretchen wanted to show that Seattle isn’t all about rain…

Sunny Seattle Ironically, Ollie NEVER sits still for photographs like this, but he also isn’t so fond of grates that are 15 feet off the ground so he is kind of frozen in this sit position.

I’m in a STAY again because, given any freedom, I would have cowered off that stupid grate without a moment’s hesitation.

What I have to do for art…

I’m off to agility class where I get lots of praise, lots of time to play, and lots and lots of treats!  Woof!

Have a great evening!

I’m Not Like That!

Gretchen says I am just like Gemma, but I beg to differ. She says that the way Gemma behaves with me (pestering, poking, biting, growling, jumping up on me) is exactly how I am with Monty.  I asked for evidence and this is all she could produce. You be the judge…

I know, I look at fault, but he is showing his teeth, too!

Gretchen’s behind me as I type. “But who pokes him in the neck? Who bites at his chin? Who irritates and instigates every game of chase?”

I plead the 5th.

After our romp at the park, we rested a bit before heading up north to meet Jasper. I was really excited to meet him because Gretchen really likes him and she says he’s very sweet. She was definitely right about that!

"See, I do smile!"

"See, I do smile!"

Gretchen told me that Jasper is a serious dog, but he was all smiles when we met at his house and then went for a walk. By the time we got to the tennis courts in his neighborhood, he was thrilled, chewing on one of my orange and blue balls like a champ!

"Thanks for sharing, Rubin!"

And when it was time for a little treat…he was all over that!

"You've got good snacks!"

He even had the patience to pose with us despite the fact that another dog was playing in the field just outside the tennis courts!

"How many pictures does she take, usually?"

He liked Monty best of all…they’re about the same size though Jasper is definitely beefier!

"About a million and a half photograph if you count using doggie math!"

Our walk even took us to a few new places. First, a pet store where we each got a small cookie and then to a place that smelled divine!  Molly Moon’s Ice Cream Shop.  We waited outside while Gretchen ordered up a Coconut Chunk on a waffle cone.

img_6119

She didn’t even share!  And that’s a dog on the store’s sign…Molly Moon is a dog so we should at least get a lick of that ice cream!

Jasper was sad to see us go and we were a bit sad to leave, but we needed our lunch and a nap before we headed up to the groomer to pick up Oshi and Perrito…

Yep, we're lookin' fine!

Yep, that’s them…the former carpet samples on a leash. Amazing.

Oshi and Perrito went to the same “spa” Monty and I go to.  I think they liked it there because they got to play with lots of friends before and after their grooming!

Tardiness, My Bad

Look at the mountsI’m usually very good about updating the website after a day of walking, but yesterday just flew by before I realized my mistake. Therefore, I am a day late and for that I apologize, but maybe if I get it done early this morning, no one will notice!

The day started with a crisp, beautiful walk around Volunteer Park. Gretchen was desperate to get a photograph of the Olympics bright white on the horizon, but every view was cluttered with wires and houses. This was the only one that offered a clear shot over the city to the mountains and believe you me, we had to hike quite awhile to find just the right viewpoint.

Even this photograph had to be cropped because a flagpole originally cluttered the left side. Still, it gives you a sense of how beautiful it was yesterday.

And cold, mighty, mighty cold. The morning temperatures were an astounding 36 degrees!

After our walk through and around the park, we headed to the pet store to find more food for me. Yes, I’m a finicky eater so Gretchen’s always hemming and hawing over which food I might find appealing this week. She did a good job because I’ve eaten every meal since our stop at the store.

Next, we gathered up Lucy and Ollie for a walk and a romp.bad ass

Lucy, who has weird allergies, was dressed in her Bad Ass sweater (it’s gotta be cold for a skinny little dog with short hair on cold mornings like this!) and her left eye was all puffy from something though no one is really sure what. That didn’t stop her in the least, though, from playing fetch and being obsessive about the ball.

puffy eye

Ollie up!Ollie, on the other hand, was his usual wooly, bouncy self with a special emphasis on bouncy!

We played fetch and chase and wrestled in the cold chill of the mid-morning and Ollie, as you can see, practiced his jumps.  It’s impressive. Even I, who love to perfect my agility skills, find Ollie’s altitude remarkable. I mean, the guy is half my size, all hair and curls, and still, he can launch himself from four flat feet a good five feet into the air.

And he LOVES to do it in search of a bouncing ball.

In addition to all the normal fun we had at the park, we were joined by a sweet old gal named Yuna who Ollie found particularly wonderful!

come play with us woo-hoo!

Yuna is 10 years old and she loves to talk announcing her arrival, her pleasure in meeting new friends, and her general joy of life. Plus, she has a great smile, don’t ya think?

yuna smile

While Ollie found her lots of fun to smell and play with…

you're cute!

..I myself enjoyed chasing Yuna’s mom around the courts.  She was lots of fun!

chase the human

Where’s Lucy during all this fun with new friends? You guessed it, though don’t worry — she got our new human friend to throw the ball for her like a million and a half times.  Lucy LOVED that, as you can imagine.

where's Lucy?

We thought our work day was over after this, but then we got a call from Gemma’s dad. She was driving her dad crazy as he was preparing for guests that evening. “Could we wear her out?” he pleaded.  I laughed. As if I could wear out Gemma before she wears out me!  HA!

on the move

See what I mean?

love those ears! watch out!

Gemma got to go with us in the car as Gretchen met some potential new clients — Riley and Rufus. We didn’t get to meet them. Not yet, anyway, as Gretchen likes to walk the dogs on her own to see how they are on the leash. Riley is an 11-year old beagle who, as beagles are prone to do, is very stubborn. Rufus is a 3 year old basset hound and walked as fast as his little legs allowed.  They are both, according to Gretchen, driven by their noses so she found it hard to move forward. Next time, she told me, she’s going to take me AND some really smelly treats in hopes that will motivate them into some vigorous exercise!

After we dropped Gemma off (hopefully she slept through the dinner party) our day was officially done, though I got to play some fetch later that evening with Monty and his mom Colleen.  It was a great way to end a busy day and man oh man, did I sleep like a dog!

I’ll do better today, I hope, posting today’s activities. Promise! =-)

on the moveWhat’s Cookin?

It’s lunchtime and Gretchen’s making dinner. She does this often when she has to work nights. She eats dinner for lunch and then my other mom, Ann, gets Gretchen’s lunch for dinner. Today’s meal is a creamy mushroom and bacon pasta. There was going to be spinach in it, but she decided against it. Hey, bacon alone sounds like enough of an ingredient.

We got to spend the morning together, though, solely focused on a long walk through one of my favorite parks. I romped while Gretchen sweated. From the lake to the top of the hill is quite a climb with many, many stairs that Gretchen says are good for her butt.

Then she started lunch/dinner preparations with a break to walk the boys next door.  Just then, wouldn’t you know it, sprinkles of rain came down, but luckily not enough to stop our progress through the neighborhood and to the tennis courts. Oshi was particularly frisky today chasing after me with great glee. Perrito followed and showed just as much energy today. I think it’s the wind. Something big is blowing in and we could all feel it in the stiff breezes.

glee festOshi and Perrito are small dogs, but they come with a whole lot of hair. It’s kind of fun in the wind, their locks whipping in the breeze making them look they are really flying, but sometimes it’s hard to know which end is up with them.  I mean, take this photo for instance. What end are we looking at?

only a face...

Any ideas?  Well, I think it’s Oshi’s face, but I can’t be too sure.

And then there’s this shot?

mop

A mop of dog (who happens to be chewing on a pine cone).  It seems only fitting that if I have to go to the groomer every few months that these guys should have to endure the torment of getting beautified.  Don’t ya think?  Well, apparently that’s just what’s going to happen. They have a grooming appointment for Wednesday and we get to pick them up for their Wednesday walk AFTER they’ve been groomed AND trimmed. Now won’t that be exciting!

full hair floppy

Imagine what they’ll look like for just a moment? Sure, no more long flowing hair lifting in the breezes, but I bet they’ll feel lighter…which means…wait, which means they might be able to see me, which means they might be able to catch me????

on the move2

Gretchen just told me not to worry, they’ll still have short legs. Whew!

The only inkling of what they might look like comes from the other neighbor dogs who are the same breed, but always groomed. Their names are Beethoven and Blackie. I bet you can who’s who!

haircuts

Whatever Oshi and Perrito look like, you’ll be the first to know!  We’ll come with camera and leashes to escort the boys home after their baths and haircuts!  In the meantime, I just got some bacon in my dish and Gretchen is sitting down to her lunch.  Smells yummy.

Until tomorrow,

Rubin

Contented House Guestcontentment

I’ll admit it. There’s nothing as cute as a puppy sleeping. I know I was cute years ago when I curled up in my favorite bed and slept the afternoon away. So it shouldn’t surprise me that, while I’m at the groomer, our house guest, Gemma, made herself at home in my bed and in my dog house.

Gretchen was a little worried that while Monty and I were at the “spa” (her word for it, NOT mine), Gemma wouldn’t know what to do with herself.  That she would, in fact, have the puppy crazies like she did last night traipsing around the house on an uncontrolled binge of frolic and silliness.

But no…once Monty and I were out of the house, Gemma settled right in and found the most comfortable place in the  house — my donut bed. Gretchen planned on taking Gemma with her when she walked Oshi and Perrito today, but when she got ready to go, Gemma gave her a sleepy look from the bed and Gretchen knew Gemma would be staying behind.

tucked inThe only problem? Gemma has never stayed alone in our house on her own so Gretchen solved the problem by scooping up the bed (with Gemma in it) and tucking it into my collapsible dog house, the one I use at the agility ring.

Before zipping Gemma in for an afternoon nap, Gretchen snapped this photo.

That was almost 3 hours ago and little Ms. Gemma is still fast asleep only now with the door unzipped.

Meanwhile, Monty and I are still at the “spa” (I’m using my doggy iPhone to text in this blog!).

The day started, though, with a romp in the rain.  Since we were going to the groomer’s anyway, Gretchen thought she’d let us get as messy as we could with a few games at the tennis courts.

And man, did we play hard!

chasingThe moment Gretchen let us off the leashes, Monty and I started wrestling. Within seconds, we were racing around the courts with wild abandon.

In this photo we’re chasing Monty, but it’s rare to see Monty in the lead. Generally, Monty does the chasing. He likes to bark at me and run full out trying to catch me, but I’m a fast little bugger and I’m able to cut the corners a lot faster than Monty. That Gretchen captured Monty in the lead lets you know how wild he’d become.  He raced like crazy with Gemma and me in HOT pursuit.

Usually EVERYONE chases ME

Usually EVERYONE chases ME

...and I LOVE to be chased!

...and I LOVE to be chased!

Monty’s a sly one, though. When he gets tired, he stops and tries to cut me off so we can wrestle! I just bark at him to try and get him running again…he barks back!

Come on! You can catch me!

Come on! You can catch me!

When we’ve had enough, Gretchen pulls out the balls and starts throwing them across the courts. We fetch them, bring them back, and then Monty, who has recently decided this particular position is the best, perches onto the small bench on the side of the court.

I'm going to rest here for a moment, okay guys?

I'm going to rest here for a moment, okay guys?

Maybe I'll lie down, but wait! My ball keeps falling.

Maybe I'll lie down, but wait! My ball keeps falling.

Maybe I should just stand up!

Maybe I should just stand up!

...but this is so much more comfortable!

...but this is so much more comfortable!

Monty is kind of silly and as you can tell by the photo, he needs a haircut…so do I!

I think I need a bath!

I think I need a bath!

So off we went to the “spa” and Gemma went home with Gretchen who tucked her in for a long sleep (she’s still sleeping, in fact) while Gretchen took the boys next door to the park.

Oshi, as you may recall, thinks he’s a cat and often, when Gretchen opens their front door, Orondo (the other neighbor’s cat) will come running out with the dogs. So it was today and when Gretchen, Perrito, and Oshi heard another cat meowing on their walk, Oshi refused to move forward think it was still Orondo, but it was just another cat meowing to get into his own house.

Don't you hear that? It's a cat!

Don't you hear that? It's a cat!

The only thing that got Oshi to move was visitors — a mom and her young son, Eli.

Why hello there! Did you hear the cat?

Why hello there! Did you hear the cat?

Perrito is much more of a greeter than Oshi, though, and he spent most of his time getting love from the visitors.

being friendly more friendly

But then it was time to go and Oshi decided to say goodbye along with Perrito.

bye bye

Jasper was next on the agenda, though Gretchen had to pick us up from the spa first and then Gemma went home to her dads and well, it’s been a very long day.

Jasper was excited to see Gretchen though he did his usual bark and growl as a warning that a fierce dog lived in the house. Gretchen wasn’t buying it and so, Jasper gave up and wagged his tail and did his happy dance.  And off they went around the neighborhood and down by the lake meeting friends along the way.

meeting friends Gretchen wasn’t certain how Jasper would do meeting other dogs, but apparently he was quite a gentleman and wagged his tail in glee at the meeting.

They met other dogs along the way, but none of them were are willing to greet as this little guy.

Gretchen tried to take a picture of Jasper’s tail with the white spot at the end (her favorite part of Jasper), but the photos didn’t turn out. Then she tried to take a photo of Jasper smiling, but he’s a rather serious boy and when on a walk, he’s all about THE WALK — not much room for smiling.

Walking, walking, walking...

Walking, walking, walking...

I walk, I don't smile.

I walk, I don't smile.

On their walk, there were beautiful flowers — cherry trees in bloom, daffodils pushing through the soil, and euphorbia chartreuse and Dr. Seuss-like!

Still life with Jasper

Still life with Jasper

When Jasper got back home, he threw himself on the ground and tried to rub off his collar. At this point Gretchen noticed, while she was mixing his dinner, that he’d torn up one of his toys. The lighting wasn’t great, but she snapped this (guilty) photo anyway!

The toy's ripped? Imagine that!

The toy's ripped? Imagine that!

You think I did that? Nope, not me!

You think I did that? Nope, not me!

Next week I get to meet Jasper and from what I can tell, he seems like a nice enough fellow. I, too, like to rip up my toys and look annoyed when Gretchen poses me in front of flowers!

Have a great weekend,

Rubin

All At Once

Busy days generally have us walking six dogs a day, but generally those dogs are scattered throughout the day. I’m allowed to come home, get a fresh drink of water, and rest up before we head out for the next dog or two.

Today, however, we did it all at once — three dogs and me all at the same time. It’s not like we haven’t done this before, but this was the first time we had this combination of dogs — Lucy, Ollie, Gemma, and me. It was leash-mania for awhile, but once we got all tired out, the walk home was a bit less stressful. I was an exceptionally good boy, though, and didn’t pull or cross over even once!

Before the walks started, though, I had to go to the vet. Don’t worry, I’m fine, though going to the vet is a lot like going to the groomer — there are things I like (the treats high atop the list) and there are things I hate (the combing, the thermometer up my you know what). Today I got a vaccination up the nose and I’ve now added that to the list of things I hate about the vet. Lucky for me, though, I got lots and lots of treats. Gemma came with me, too, and that helped calm my nerves. She seems to LOVE the vet. Perhaps they haven’t poked and prodded her as they have me.

Then we drove to pick up Lucy and Ollie and headed to the tennis courts since they’d just mowed the park lawn and Lucy suffers from allergies.  At the courts, Ollie practiced his flying skills!

flying 1 img_5910 flying 3

It’s kind of like a physics equation: Ollie times happiness divided by friends equals altitude.

When we first arrive at the tennis courts, Ollie doesn’t do much. He just follows Gretchen around as she circles the court trying to get good photographs of our activities. And then, before you know it, he takes off running and everyone (well, everyone except “I’m playing fetch” Lucy) chases after him.

Gemma likes to chase him the most, but I like it too and Ollie adds that to his equation of happiness!

come get me! Gretchen works hard to get the photographs, but not everything goes her way.

For instance, there is Lucy who muddles up every clean equation with her persistence with the ball.  Generally, Lucy only wants to play with her tennis ball. I, on the other hand, prefer my orange and blue ball. I prefer it so much that Gretchen went out and bought more of them so I could never be without my orange and blue ball.

Lucy has never shown any interest in anything other than a tennis ball, but today she begged at Gretchen’s backpack for something other than a yellow ball.

Guess what she got?

I like this one! let 'em play chase!

In fact, she was so thrilled to have an orange and blue ball she shoved it continuously do you see it?in front of the camera forcing Gretchen to miss many a wonderful photograph for the blur of Lucy’s new ball.

But that didn’t stop us from playing nor did it stop Gretchen from taking photographs.

Nor did it stop, dare I say, Ms. Gemma and her incessant need to chew on me.  Usually she goes for my ears…can you see how she’s bent me over backwards with her teeth firmly in my ear?

bent over backwards

But today she found pleasure in my tail…

ouch!

And got very frustrated when she couldn’t lock her jaws on some part of my body!

frustration

But Ollie tries to soothe me after such Gemma tussles and gives me sweet kisses on my boo-boos!

all better?

Gemma runs around after that feigning innocence, but we all know (and I have punctures as proof) the torture of her teeth!

who me?

We end the play session (an exceptionally long one today) with treats.  Try as Gretchen might, she can’t get all four of us in a picture at once. Despite the docile pictures of Ollie waiting for a treat, every time Gretchen backs up to include us all in the frame, Ollie scoots forward and then springs up as high as he can in order to get the treats from Gretchen’s hand.

begging 1

And don’t let Gemma fool you either. She may look all pretty and patient, but she’s a sly one that Irish terrier and has a habit of leaping up right when the treat comes toward her.

Lucy? She takes her treat, eats it and then heads for the ball that has rolled away.

The sun is out this minute and I think we’re headed out for one more walk before we drive to my agility class!  What fun!

Have a great Thursday!

treat?A Great Place to Hang out!

We had a full house today as you can tell. Not that I’m complaining. There were lots of friends about to play with and we even had nap time together as well as lunch.

Our day started with a morning walk — just Gemma and me — and then we fetched Monty from his condo.  He woofed loudly all the way down the three flights of stairs excited to see us. Gemma had never been to his house so she was thrilled to be there, too, desperately pulling to race up the stairs after the smell of cat. But Gretchen had a firm grip on her leash so there was no mid-morning cat snack for any of us!

How does Monty do it living with tasty treats like that?

We headed to the park where Monty and I played fetch, and Gemma (on a leash drag) tried to fetch us.  She’s persistent she is and like her breed (Irish terrier) she rarely gives up be it chasing Monty…

got cha!

Tackling me…

…or biting my ears (which I think are permanently pierced by now!)…

Come on! Gemma got a bit tired, but she waited out in the field for one of us to sally forth in our game of fetch, but today was warm. Not as warm as yesterday or the day before, but still warm.

Monty and I are kind of wooly these days (I’m hearing rumors of an upcoming spa day…yikes!) so we get overheated quickly.  Gemma doesn’t understand this. She literally stood in this pose (to the left) for 10 minutes waiting for us to cool off and continue the game.

We, on the other hand, took a break and relaxed in the shade feeling absolutely no pressure to continue until we were good and ready!

resting treat time yet?

Gretchen took us back to the house where we napped before lunch. While we rested, she picked up Oshi and Perrito for their mid-day walk and along the way met up with Quillette (her mom was off to an appointment). They headed back to the park and frolicked on the tennis courts though I’m not sure you can call it frolicking…

Meanwhile, Quillette played with the ball, but she got a bit confused when the ball rolled on the other side of the net!

I'm gonna get it!

I'm gonna get it!

Uh, wait...

Uh, wait...

Oh now I get it!

Oh now I get it!

After Oshi and Perrito went home, Quillette joined us at the house and Gemma was up to her pesky tricks.

Take my picture, take my picture!

Take my picture, take my picture!

Sound like a busy day?  Well, it wasn’t over for Gretchen. We have a new client and as Gretchen does when she first starts walking a new dog, she went by herself. This dog is named Jasper and according to Gretchen he’s a bit of a momma’s boy (kind of like me!). He wasn’t certain about the outing at first. He kept checking in with Gretchen to see if it really was okay to be walking with her.

Are you sure we're okay?

Are you sure we're okay?

At one point Jasper even stopped in his tracks and decided to pull his way back home!

Uh, I'm not so sure!

Uh, I'm not so sure!

Are you sure, sure, sure?

Are you sure, sure, sure?

But once they arrived at the lake (wait, Jasper got to go to a lake?), all was good!

Do we get to go swimming?

Do we get to go swimming?

That made everything pretty okay for Jasper and after Gretchen fed him dinner, he thought she was pretty okay!

It's good to stop and smell the flowers!

It's good to stop and smell the flowers!

Okay, this is a pretty good gig!

Okay, this is a pretty good gig!

And that, my friends, is the end of one very long day!  More tomorrow!

Curls and Caramel

looking through curls

Looking through curls to caramel intensity

For a Tuesday, we’ve been quite busy. First, Gemma is still here and man, is she exhausting!  She crashed last night after a rompus time with me and some friends (human) who came over for dinner.  Those friends included three young girls who are, dare I say, as active and as energetic as Ms. Gemma. Gemma (and I) were so tired out last night, we slept the whole night through and only woke with the alarm.

Today started with a long walk down by the lake. I don’t think Gemma had ever been that direction before because she often stopped to ponder her surroundings, a bit hesitant to move forward. Once we looped around and headed home, though, she got right into the swing of things and trotted along quite nicely.

But it’s another warm day today and so we got hot and tired rather quickly. We rested for a bit of time before we headed up to retrieve Lucy. Gretchen and I weren’t too sure how well Lucy and Gemma would get along, but they had a fabulous time together with Lucy chasing tennis balls and Gemma chasing Lucy.

flight of the chaseGemma is fast, but Lucy is most definitely faster. Gemma never gave up the chase, though. She followed Lucy like glue on a 4th grader’s nose.  Lucy, surprisingly, even let Gemma

play with her tennis ball. Lucy NEVER does that so clearly Lucy approved of Gemma.

Gemma was never that interested in the ball. She was far more interested in chasing Lucy and for a good half hour, that’s exactly what she did while I rested in the shade watching as Gemma tormented someone else besides me! What a relief!

"I'm going to get her!"

Whew, a rest in the shade is quite nice!

Meanwhile, Lucy chased the ball as she is wont to do and even demanded that Gretchen put down her camera and throw the darn ball again!

But then we got some unexpected visitors and it was time to play greeter.

Hey, I'm in preschool, too!

Needless to say, the combination of sun, fetch, visitors and friends made for some happy contentment!

But our day was far from over.  We returned Lucy and picked up Ollie. He’s always so happy to see us and he was particularly happy because we came back to my house for some time in the sun and a full on romp!

Despite the teeth, Ollie's a pleasant guy!

Ollie LOVES Gemma and the feeling, as far as I can tell is mutual.  Gemma’s a busy bee so it’s no wonder her dads packed one of her favorite toys in her overnight bag — a bumble bee! I found the bee particularly wonderful and did my best to engage the others in a game of catch the bee.

Do you see that bee? Get it!

Ollie and Gemma showed some interest…

Hey, that's my bee!

Hey, that's my bee!

And Ollie even tried to kill the bee by giving it a good old shake…

…but mostly, the two of them wanted to play chase…

Whoo-hoo!!!!!

Ollie headed home while Gemma and I napped. We’ve been playing in the sun since Gretchen got home, but we’re both kind of tired and about ready to curl up for another nap.  Slumber parties are hard work!

More tomorrow but for now I must type quietly as Gemma is folded into a dreamy, happy sleep!

Yes, folks that IS sunshine!

green grass, blue sky It’s been a week since my last post and that’s because Gretchen (and my other mom) went away on vacation.  Little did I know that when they went away, I’d get to spend time with two of my best friends — Jessica and Quillette. So while I was a tad bit bitter about being left, it all turned out well. We even had SNOW while they were gone!

But since they traveled to Mexico, they took it upon themselves to bring back some sun in their suitcases. It was a tough journey, Gretchen tells me, but the results are amazing.  As you can tell from Oshi’s happy, prancing self, it was nothing but green grass and blue skies today!  What a relief.

And to top it all off, we have a visitor for the rest of the week — Gemma!  Her dads went on vacation too and though we usually don’t board dogs, we decided one dog at a time was okay.  So even though Mondays are usually slow in the dog walking business, this Monday has been jam-packed with all sorts of activity. Remember, Gemma is still a puppy (6 months old I think?) and she has more energy than any dog I’ve ever known.  Surprisingly she’s sleeping right now, but it’s taken most of the day to wear her down.

Gemma arrived around 9:30 this morning complete with her bed, food, and toys.  my stickWe headed out for a long walk and ended up on one of my favorite trails where I was let off leash and Gemma was allowed to leash drag. I found a stick immediately and as Gemma’s prone to do, she wanted it too.  She contorted herself all over the hillside, barking and whining at me to get the stick, but I was stubborn and refused (sometimes loudly) to give in.

Eventually, I chewed up the stick into little bitty pieces, one of which Gemma snagged and proudly carried for the rest of our walk on the trail.

When we got home, we got lunch (my breakfast), played in the backyard a bit before Gretchen headed out to walk Oshi and Perrito (she decided to leave us behind — Gemma in the big green crate and me on my bed each of us sucking on our treat-filled Kong toys! Yum.)

Gretchen headed out to the park where she allowed Oshi and Perrito to leash drag as well while she sat in the green, green grass and tried to snap photos.

sun runningPerrito LOVED romping around the park and paid absolutely NO attention to his leash dragging behind him.

Oshi, on the other hand, kept getting tangled, the leash wrapping around his legs and body again and again. Still he was happy and eventually just gave up and frolicked!

Oshi’s favorite thing to do in the sun and tall grass is roll around and he put on quite a show for everyone!  Can you tell which pile of fur is Oshi and which is Perrito?

furballs

Don’t worry…I can’t either, but that’s Oshi on his back in the front and Perrito laughing at him in the back.  They are silly.

When Gretchen returned, she let Gemma and me play in the back yard. Man, that was a blast!

But the sun WAS out and therefore we got really warm really fast.  That’s when we decided to just chill and hang out in the shade of the almost blossoming cherry tree. Nice.

I’ve forgotten how great the sun feels and after all the rain and snow we’ve had this winter and early spring, I’m sure happy my moms hauled some of the warm stuff back in their suitcases!

Enjoy the sun!
